About us

Why Green Hydrogen and PtX

Achieving climate neutrality requires solutions that go beyond direct electrification and energy efficiency improvements. Green hydrogen and its derivatives (Power-to-X/PtX) are essential for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors while serving as versatile energy carriers and industrial feedstocks. A key element of this transition is the integration of future hydrogen-producing countries into emerging global value chains, enabling them to become active contributors to the global energy system while benefiting from new industrial opportunities and value creation.

In this context, the benefits are threefold: green hydrogen strengthens energy security through diversified imports, contributes to the decarbonisation of global industrial value chains, and supports local economic development through investment, industrial growth, and job creation. In this way, green hydrogen and PtX can support climate-friendly and socially equitable development, ensuring a just transition in Germany’s partner countries.

Who we are

The Green Hydrogen Business Alliance (H2BA) operates at the interface between emerging hydrogen-producing countries and their stakeholders on the one hand, and German and European markets on the other, bridging both sides to enable coordinated development of emerging hydrogen value chains.

In this role, H2BA maintains an ongoing dialogue with around 200 anchor companies across the hydrogen sector. It brings together leading global stakeholders along the entire value chain to support a shared understanding of evolving market dynamics and the conditions required for scaling green hydrogen and its derivatives.

Building on this network, H2BA provides a structured platform for cooperation between policymakers and industry. This enables the identification and addressing of regulatory and market barriers on both sides of emerging value chains, helping to align expectations between producing and importing countries and supporting the development of PtX markets in Germany’s partner countries and beyond.
